Burr Ridge, once home to many Native Indians, was mostly farm land going into the 1950's. Then in 1956 it was decided that the open farm land and the Village of Harvester should be combined into one incorporated community. At that time, the Village had approximately 75 homes and a population of about 300 people.
After more land was annexed into the village, the community had grown and the name was changed to Burr Ridge. The name Burr Ridge came from a ridge of Burr trees on the Busby family farm property along County Line Rd near Plainfield Rd. The Burr Oark leaf became the Village emblem and the communities unofficial slogan is 'A Very Special Place'. That name came from a small book written to reflect the Village's pride at the time of its 20th anniversary.
